This Saturday, April 12th, from 4 to 7 PM, the Houska Gallery is thrilled to invite you to the opening of three new exhibitions featuring the unique visions of Yelena Petroukhina, Barb Ferrari, and Mark Travers.
Yelena Petroukhina – Russian-born and Arkansas-based, Yelena Petroukhina brings her contemporary ceramic art to St. Louis. Petroukhina’s work, deeply personal and rooted in the traditional ceramic toys of Central Russia, explores her evolving identity through sculptural forms. Award-winning and renowned for her contribution to the ceramic arts, Yelena’s pieces are both a reflection of self and a challenge to societal norms.
Barb Ferrari – Barb Ferrari’s exhibition transports us back to the vibrant 1980s art scene of downtown New York. Known for her dynamic involvement in performance and street art, Ferrari’s pieces reflect her time among influential figures like Alice Neel and Keith Haring. Her work encapsulates the spirit and transformation of an era that continues to influence contemporary art.
Mark Travers – Local talent Mark Travers, a graduate of Washington University, returns to his artistic roots with a diverse display of multimedia and sculpture. Having spent years in advertising, Travers’s work is rich with nuanced communications and vibrant portrayals of everyday and fantastical elements. His pieces engage with the textures of American culture, questioning and celebrating the narratives we often take for granted.
