Counterpublic returns this fall with Coyote Time, a citywide exhibition bringing contemporary art into public spaces across St. Louis and Sauget, Illinois.
The exhibition’s title borrows a term from video games: the fleeting moment when a character has stepped beyond solid ground but remains suspended long enough to make another move. Through new commissions, performances and public programs, Coyote Time considers what can emerge during moments of uncertainty and transition.
Opening Week runs September 10 through 13, with artists, curators and collaborators activating sites throughout the region. Events begin Thursday with remarks, performances, and a Grand Opening Celebration at Powell Hall at the Jack C. Taylor Music Center.
Friday’s programming moves through South St. Louis, with openings and artist-led events at the International Institute of St. Louis, Tower Grove Park and The Luminary. Additional performances, discussions, tours and celebrations continue throughout the weekend.
Coyote Time is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity to experience St. Louis through art while visiting sites from the Riverfront and Forest Park to North City, South City and across the river in Illinois. Guided and self-guided tours are available for a range of ages and abilities.
The exhibition remains on view through December 12, 2026. Visit Counterpublic’s website to explore the full Opening Week schedule, register for events, and plan your visit.
