Oktoberfest STL 2016
Oktoberfest St. Louis will run Friday, September 23rd through Sunday, September 25th at Urban Chestnut Brewing Company’s Midtown Brewery & Biergarten (3229 Washington Ave)! The annual festival will span three full days this year with festivities kicking off at noon on Friday.
Dates:
Friday 9/23: 12 p.m. – 11p.m.
Saturday 9/24: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Sunday 9/25: 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.
They have expanded the footprint of the festival and the number of guest breweries once again this year, and are happy to have their friends at Schlafly, Perennial Artisan Ales, 2nd Shift, and The Civil Life join the party as they fill nearly two full city blocks with German food, music, and, of course, bier! In addition to festival staples like Oachkatzlschwoaf (Annual Oktober-Festbier), Zwickel (Bavarian Lager), Schnickelfritz (Weissbier), Stammtisch (German Pilsner), and Dorfbier (Dunkel), we’ll offer Ku’Damm (Berliner Weiss sour beer with optional house-made syrups) and, new this year, Radlers. Xaver, an Amber Weissbier, brewed in collaboration with Karmeliten Brauerei in Straubing, Germany is also making a special return for the event.
With food offerings including giant pretzels, brats, currywurst, roasted chicken, and frikadellen; competitions like Masskrugstemmen (stein-holding contests) and Fingerhackeln (finger wrestling); and music (band schedule below) provided round-the-clock by The Bolzen Beer Band, Über Cool, The Deutschmeister Brass Band, Dave Hylla’s Good Times Band, The Town Drunks, and Larry Hallar, there’s truly something for everyone!
Entry is free at Oktoberfest St. Louis. Festival-goers may buy an authentic 1-liter glass stein for $8 prior to the festival ($10 day of) and get 1-liter fills during the festival for $8. 1-liter ceramic steins will also be available. Sunday is traditionally considered “family day” at Oktoberfest St. Louis, and will feature a kids tent with activities hosted by Catherine Cares, including Lebkuchen (cookie) decorating, crafts, music, games like big-block Jenga, and more!
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATION FROM THE VENUE
Urban Chestnut says you will need to bring cash for all purchases. “In [an] effort to cut down on your queue time (your time waiting in line for beer, et al), we will be accepting CASH ONLY at Oktoberfest St. Louis 2016…as is customary at the Munich Oktoberfest.”
