Porano has officially become Porano by Pastaria, a re-branding of the fast casual restaurant on Washington Ave. The previous “build your own” service method of ordering has evolved into a counter service style where customers place their order at the register and have food brought to their table. Entrees are served on plates with silverware as compared to the eco disposable bowls they previously used which will help further cut down on waste, said Gerard Craft, chef-owner of Niche Food Group.
Most notable are the new menu items, popular classics from the Pastaria menu. Craft said that because the large majority of Porano’s clientele wanted pasta, he added favorites like bolognese, amatriciana, pomodoro and arrabbiata to the menu while keeping Porano’s alfredo and cilantro pesto. The sauces are served on a choice of fresh house made spaghetti or rigatoni noodles, as well as gluten-free or zucchini “pasta” (spiralized zucchini noodles).
The crusty, rectangular shaped Detroit style pizzas are still on the menu as well as sides and a few salads including the addition of Pastaria’s popular kale Caesar. About a dozen different beers and wines are available as well as limited spirits including the addition of an aperol spritz and a Bellini to the previous negroni slushy and frozé. Customers can still finish off their meals with one of Porano’s gelato pops, the finest popsicle to be had in the city.
Porano’s hours will stay the same: Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m.–8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.–9 p.m.
