Annual Frank Lloyd Wright Lecture Free at SLAM Date: April 30, 2014 6:30 p.m. Location: Saint Louis Art Museum, The Farrell Auditorium Fees: Free and open to the public. Free tickets may be picked up in advance at the Saint Louis Art Museums Information Centers or at the door at the event. Saving the Most Important Modernist House in Cincinnati Emily Rauh Pulitzer, Founder and Chair of the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, and Paul Muller, AIA, Executive Director of the Cincinnati Preservation Association, will speak about saving the 1938 Rauh House, a modernist landmark in Cincinnati, Ohio. The house is the residential masterpiece of architect John Becker, who attended Washington University Architecture School with I. E. Millstone and Charles Eames. The speakers will tell the story of how the house, Mrs. Pulitzers childhood home, was brought from near destruction to pristine condition. Presented with support from the Regional Arts Commission.
Acclaimed St. Louis Musician Pokey LaFarge to Celebrate His Midwestern Roots and Frank Lloyd Wrights Birthday at FLWHEP Date: June 8, 2014 2:00-5:00 p.m. Location: Frank Lloyd Wright House in Ebsworth Park The Frank Lloyd Wright House in Ebsworth Park will celebrate Mr. Wrights 147th birthday with a benefit party, Midwestern Originals, on Sunday, June 8, on the grounds of Ebsworth Park. The event will feature a concert at 3:00 p.m. by acclaimed musician Pokey LaFarge, whose creative mix of early jazz, country blues and western swing has put him at the forefront of American music. Pokey LaFarge, like Frank Lloyd Wright, hails from the Midwest and is dedicated to an art form that reflects his American roots. At just 30 years old, Pokey performs worldwide and has been featured on A Prairie Home Companion, The Late Show with David Letterman and HBOs Boardwalk Empire. Guests will be invited to tour the Frank Lloyd Wright House in Ebsworth Park; view an exhibit of woodcuts, lithographs and paintings by Midwestern artists; and savor Midwestern party fare, wine, beer, gelato and birthday cake in honor of Mr. Wrights birthday. The party is a benefit to raise funds for projects and programs of the Frank Lloyd Wright House in Ebsworth Park. Event Chairmen are Debra Hollingsworth, Mark Stacye and Ted Wight.
