This was just reported by the Modern STL Group:
"Anyone driving past the concrete saucer at 212 South Grand Avenue over the past few months has been witness to its rapid transformation from a run-down Del Taco into a sleek and stylish space-aged dream.
Just one year ago the former Phillips 66 gas station, built in 1967 as part of Council Plaza and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was slated for demolition to make way for a standard strip mall. Saved through the efforts of dedicated citizens region-wide and by preservation non-profits such as ModernSTL, Landmarks Association of St. Louis, Missouri Preservation and even the National Trust, it has now been restored to its original elegance and will soon house Midtown’s first Starbucks and Chipotle.
Today ModernSTL is thrilled to report, on good authority, that the Starbucks branch is slated to open this Friday, September 28th! So keep your eyes peeled – while such openings are prone to postponement, the Saint Louis community shouldn’t have long to wait before it can quench its thirst beneath the welcoming concrete disc which has made this building a local landmark for the past forty-five years."
