Award-Winning Michigan ‘Cube’ Home Available for First Time

This historic piece of Michigan architecture and award-winning home has never been on the market – until now. We’re giving you a tour of this house, which is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Known as the Balogh House, it is located at 49800 Joy Road in Plymouth. This “cube” home was built in 1958-59 by Michigan architect Tivadar Balogh. Balogh’s design rendering won a Progressive Architecture Award in 1957 before it was built. “I’ve never listed a house that has its own Wikipedia page before,” said John Goetz of Real Estate One. “You’re kind of selling art. It’s like a unicorn. You don’t see many things like this out there,” added Goetz. The two-story, 1,905-square-foot home is supported on a partial basement on one side and posts on the other. The home sits on a 2.7-acre wooded lot. Before it was even trendy, Balogh designed this home with high-ceiling living spaces. The home has two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms.
